Japan Week 2019 – Volunteer Recruitment

Japan Week is an international cultural exchange event, held in a different European city every year, which showcases Japanese life, culture, art, music, performances, etc.

This year, the 44^th Japan Week is going to be held in Athens, hosted by International Friendship Foundation (IFF) and the City of Athens.

Over 1000 participants will travel from Japan to Greece in order to introduce various aspects of Japanese culture to the people of Greece.

On this occasion, IFF welcomes the participation of volunteers. The role of the volunteers is one of the most significant parts for the success of the event. Volunteer work includes translation for the Japanese performers, theatrical back stage supports, assistance at the official ceremonies and demonstrations.

We believe it will be a great experience for you to be in touch with the Japanese people and become the bridge between the two dynamic cultures of Greece and Japan.

【Duration for Volunteer Work】

Saturday, 23 November – Friday, 29 November 2019

【Days of Service】

The minimum requirement for volunteers’ service is basically 3 days, during the above period.

* However, some positions are available even for a fewer days, depending on the shifts and roles. If you have specific availability, please note in your application email.

【Hours of Service】

4-8 hours from 9:00 to 23:00, depending on the roles/shifts.

*You are welcome to apply for more than five hours/day.

【Important Requirements】

・ Those who are interested in Japanese culture

・ Those who would like to interact with Japanese people

・ Those who want to utilize Japanese language skills

・Those who have good understanding and respect for both Greek and Japanese cultures

【Age】

Open to those who are over 18 years old.

* Candidates under 18 years old will be accepted if accompanied by an adult or some required procedure.

No special qualification is required for the application.

【Languages】

Most importantly, all volunteers are required to have good understanding and respect for both Greek and Japanese cultures.

• Japanese Language

We recruit widely from beginner’s level to the most advanced level.

*Some positions do not require any Japanese language skill.

• Greek and English Language

The candidates are required to speak either Greek or English at least at Intermediate level.

So as to make the best possible match for the position, please describe your language skills accurately.

Also note: For those positions which require certain language skill, there is a possibility to close recruitment when the position is applied.

【Some Examples of the Positions】

– Interpreting / assisting in the Official Ceremony or Tea Ceremony.

– Backstage assistance to the theatrical performance.

– Interpreting / assisting to the Japanese performers during school visits.

– Cargo loading staff.

– MC at the theatrical performances.

– General assistance to the Japanese participants.

【Expenses】

Each volunteer will receive gratuity as below to cover the cost of transport.

3 days participation        : 10 euro.

4 – 5 days participation   : 20 euro.

6  days participation       : 30 euro.
